Being able to start bringing back furloughed workers is good news for your business. This means that the business has improved enough that there is a need for more workers to help with the workflow.
But it’s also important to note that there is a process that you need to be aware of and follow so that you’re doing the proper procedure and that it’s fair across the board.

Communicate with your furloughed workers about the time frame to return
Once there is work to happen, the employees need to be notified so that they can return. Just as notice was given to them when they found out that they were being furloughed, the same communication needs to happen with them so that they can make plans to return to work as well.
Talk to them about the start date and what is going to be expected of their return. It’s a good idea to have it all down in writing as well and to even sign a new agreement stating that this is a continuation of their previous employment just so that there aren’t any loose ends.

Just because the employees aren’t technically “new” employees, there may be some new changes or policies that they need to be educated and versed on since they were last at work. A simple onboarding process where you go over any changes or updates is a simple way to have them ready and able to work.
The onboarding process doesn’t have to be anything extensive, but it does need to be detailed enough so that they are well-versed and ready to be in compliance with any updates within the company.
Bringing back furloughed employees to get back to work is a good thing for the company and for them but you also need to make certain that you’re setting the company up for future success as well.
Answer any questions that the employees might have and do your best to provide them with the support that they need to return to work and hit the ground running. The sooner they’re ready and able to work, the sooner that they’ll be back into the groove of being a stable and productive employee.
